The Therapist
Dyslexia hit home for me in 2013 when my youngest son was given a diagnosis for dyslexia and an expressive and receptive language disorder. I felt lost and confused. I didn't understand how this bright, intelligent child was just given a learning difference label. After many tears, I realized I had to figure out what needed to be done in order for him to be successful in life. After research, I knew the answer was dyslexia therapy intervention. My son began therapy, and I began learning how to become an interventionist.
My journey as a therapist began when I became a therapist at The 3D School in Petal, MS. I was blessed to work side by side with some of the state's best therapists and therapy instructors for three years. Besides my dyslexia therapy education, I hold an undergraduate degree in Secondary Education, and I have a current Mississippi Teachers License with endorsements in Language Arts (7th - 12th grade) , Special Education (K - 12th grade), and Social Studies (7th - 12th grade). I have a wide range of educational experience in both general and special education. I hold a Master's Degree from William Carey University in Dyslexia Therapy and a National Certification as an Academic Language Therapist (CALT). I am also a Nationally Certified Dyslexia Specialist (CDS). Personally, I know the struggles our dyslexic children and families endure. My goal is to provide scientifically proven strategies to help struggling readers reach their maximum potential.
